I think she only loves me for my willie

This is the title of a song by Paul Overstreet. It's quite funny. You need to know your country singers to get it. You can hear a sample HERE. It's not his usual style,
this is the guy that wrote 'Love Can Build a Bridge' 'When You Say Nothing at All' and 'Calm at the Center of My Storm', some great songs.
I've sent an invite to some of you to box.net where we can share songs or other things. I know it's a hassle to sign up for something else but maybe it will be handy sometimes.
PS. If you don't 'get it' let me know & I'll explain it.

Cake to die for

Mum has been making this cake since she found it in one of her mother's cook books. There have been a few requests for the receipe so here it is. Read it & weep.

Pineapple Coconut Cake

Ingredients:
1 Vanilla cake mix
Extra egg
1 pack of vanilla mousse mix (if in the USA some cake mixes come with the mousse in it & you can skip the extra egg)
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1 can of coconut crème
250 ml (1 cup) fresh cream or a container of dreamwhip.
Pack of shredded coconut (not desiccated)
1 small can of crushed pineapple drained

Method
Make cake mix according to instructions
Add mousse mix & one extra egg
Pour into greased rectangle baking pan (it will be served in this so a ceramic or oven proof glass baking dish will look nicer than a pan)
Bake according to cake mix instructions
When cake is finished and still warm poke holes all over with fork
Mix sweetened condensed milk with coconut milk and pour over cake
Cover with foil and refrigerate until cold
Spread crushed pineapple over the top
Beat cream and spread over top
Sprinkle over shredded coconut

Don’t eat this if you are watching your weight, cholesterol, sugar, dairy etc. etc. ….sorry.

A Funny Poem

A lady I met through doing some volunteer driving gave me this poem. Sorry, I don't know who wrote it but I did come up with a title by googling it.

Judge Not

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven’s door
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its décor.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp—
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics, the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbour
Who never said anything nice.

Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, “What’s the deal?
I would love to hear Your take,
How’d all these sinners get up here?
God must’ve made a mistake.

“And why’s everyone so quiet,
so sombre? Give me a clue.”
“Hush, child,”
said He, “they’re all in shock,
No one thought they’d see you!”

Uganda Night

Had a wonderful dinner/fellowship last night! Robin is visiting from Uganda and shared some beautiful slides of the the work there. It was great to see our Jo & kids & all the people they work with. Such a varied bunch of ministeries. Pray for their safty, especially for the teams who go out to the tribal areas. I'm looking forward to seeing published some of the stories she told. God bless them all! I'll add a picture when I get one.

A Prayer for the day

Dear God, so far today, I’ve done all right.I haven’t gossiped, and I haven’t lost my temper.I haven’t been grumpy, nasty or selfish, and I’m really glad of that!
But in a few minutes, God, I’m going to get out of bed, and from then on, I’m probably going to need a lot of help.
Thank you! Amen.

Scientist see the moment of creation!

You gotta love it, the things these NASA guys come up with. Then again maybe....

Commonwealth Games

Maybe some of you didn't realize the Commonwealth games are here in Melbourne this time. The Queen was here to open them. The debate about the monarchy came up again. Anyway, here's a link to the the article about the opening ceremony.
Can't help but appreciate their efforts for unity & harmony.

You've seen our cat, one of our dogs, spiders, & now here's our flowers!

I have been wanting to plant Sunflowers for a long time and finally got the chance. These greet everyone that comes down the driveway The ones I planted on the other side in poor soil are one fifth the size & height. I'm sure there is a spiritual lesson in there somewhere.

Redback on the toilet seat

We just saw a documentary on spiders so Celia was a little jumpy when she picked up one of our plastic garden chairs we had in the school room and felt some web underneath. On further inspection our fears were founded; it was the latest in a long line of red back spider discoveries.

Question

What do Robert De Niro, Annette Bening, and U2 singer Bono all have in common? Other than their sizable bank accounts and famous mugs? Look

A little Vladivostok news

Jo & Serena will probably appreciate this the most. I remember seeing the house mentioned below.

Professor Rock Brynner, son of the famous American actor Yul Brynner, has delivered a series of lectures to Vladivostok students sharing with them his valuable experience and understanding of tolerance. More

See also Rock's site for photos and other news & links.
Yul Brynner was born in Vladivostok and is the only Russian-born actor to have won the Academy Award..
